AS 1201

AS 1201AS 1201

In the late 1940ies, AS launched the twin movements AS 1200 (10 1/2 lignes) and the 11 1/2 ligne AS 1201, described here.

As usual with AS, it's a very well made manual wind movement, here with decentral seconds indication at "6 o'clock", on which the escapement wheel is beared under the gear train bridge, but due to a cutout on that bridge, you should have the impression, that an own cock was used for the escapement wheel.

Technically-wise there's no advance, but it should remind of a good and expensive pocket watch movement.

On this movement, all bearings, except of the mainspring barrel and on the dial side of the minute wheel and ruby-equipped, the escapement wheel even with a cap jewel on the movement side. This leads of a total of 17 jewels.

We have a classical gear train with fourth wheel at 6 o'clock and directly driven minute wheel.

The screw balance of the contemporarily slow beating (18000 A/H) movements is beared in two Incabloc shock protection bearings and regulates a swiss pallet lever movement.

The bevelled shape of the base plate allows curved dials and hence flat cases.

On the dial side, you see the yoke winding system as well as the Incabloc bearing for the balance. At 6 o'clock there's the prolonged axle of the fourth wheel, which will carry the small and decentral second hand.

In the lab

The movement came without case and in good condition on the lab. The rates were pretty high positive and the amplitude was rather low. Nevertheless, no full service was made, only reoiling (except the balance cock) and adjustements, so that the movement shows again good results on the timegrapher.

Please note the impressive amplitude in position "dial down", a result of the re-oling. Before, it was 50° less!
