ETA 2454

ETA 2454ETA 2454

Description

The ETA 2454 was launched in the mid 1950ies and was part of the most successful and modern contemporary movements.

The movement has got a diameter of 11 1/2 lignes (25,5mm) and was available in different versions with or without screw balance, with copper-colored or silver-colored plates etc.

The rotor was axle-beared in a large ruby-bearing.

The rather large gear of the rotor drives a four-step reduction gear set with click changeing mechanism - a construction which is used until today in movements like the ETA 2824-2.

Since the ETA 2454 uses an indirect diven minute hand (driven by the third wheel), which allowed more room for a larger mainspring barrel and a larger balance. This led to longer running time and an increased precision. The latter can be seen on the timegrapher diagram down on the page - such an almost vertical line is really great for a movement, which is about 50 years old!

The large three-leg ring balance in beared in two Incabloc shock protections; the hairspring is connected to a moveable stud and can be regulated in its effective length by a long regulator arm. This was state-of-the-art and only found in better watches.

The movement is constructed in a familiar way for ETA with the directly driven center second hand, the third wheel, which drives the minute hands on the dial side (still ruby-beared!) and the second wheel, which is connected to the mainspring barrel.

This construction is still used in nowadays ETA movements and shows, how modern and advanced it was then.

On the dial side, you cannot see very much, since the date mechanism uses a lot of space. You also can't see, that the ETA 2454 uses a yoke winding system.
