Uwersi 57/10 old

Description

In the 1950ies, the german Vereinigte Uhrenfabriken Ersingen (VUFE), also known as Uwersi (Uhrenwerk Ersingen) launched a number of inexpensive movements of different quality. On the upper end of the scale, there was the relatively rare caliber Uwersi 57/10, which esisted in two version, which mainly differ by the number of screws of the winding bridge.

The Uwersi 57/10 shown here is the old version, with only two screws, compared ot later versions, which uses three screws.

base plate

On the base plate, you recognize the conservative and often used construction with central minute wheel. Here, on the Uwersi 57/10 it is even ruby-beared.

minute wheel and -cock

Usually, a center minute wheel is beared under a bridge, but here it is only a cock, which is only secured by a single screw on the main plate. Although this solution is a little cheaper, compared to a bridge, it is technically sufficcient.

Uwersi 57/10 old: gear train

gear train

With its directly driven center second and the also directly driven center minute wheel, the gear train is very common for the 1950ies.

The screw-less anular balance, which is beared in an onhouse three-leg shock protection bearing, beats contemporarily slow with 18000 A/h and regulares a conventional palett lever movements. It’s noteable, that there’s a long regulator arm for the balance.

Three out of four cap jewels are on the dial side. The cap jewel of the lever is not really useful, since the lever is the only dry beared item of the movement and so the cap jewel cannot keep oil here. Additionally, on the movement side, there’s no cap jewel for the other bearing of the lever.

In the lab

The specimen shown here was resinified and had a broken winding mechanism. Although a service was made, the missing spring of the winding mechanism could not be restored and so it kept broken. Because of this, no timegrapher measurements were made.
