AM 610

Description

With a diameter of only 8 1/2 lignes (19.3mm), the AM 610 is part of the smaller cylinder movements and was suitable for ladies’ watches.

It probably dates back to the 1920s and 1930s, partly because it was already found in movement finders, and partly because just a few years later, cylinder movements disappeared from the market in favor of much more accurate (pallet) lever movements.

AM 610: plate

plate

With 10 jewels in total (bearing and cap jewels whereever neccessary), it has got the standard equipment of a well made cylinder movement, and if you look exactly, you will notice, that the jewels are no longer set and beaded, but have been inserted into the plates.

AM 610: gear train

gear train

As with any cylinder movement, the gear train consists of the mainspring barrel, cntral minute wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel (at 6 o’clock), and cylinder wheel.

There is a small peculiarity to note about the crown wheel: its screw has a left-hand thread, but is unmarked and has only one slot.

The three-leg annular balance is not yet shock protected and beats contemporarily slow with 18,000 A/h.

Although the AM 610 can be adjusted with a long regulator arm, you must not expect great precision with this kind of movements.

AM 610: Dial side

On the dial side, you can see the simple but effective yoke winding mechanism and the regulator section, consisting of the balance wheel and cylinder wheel, which is inserted into the movement from the dial side.

The option of an decentral seconds display at 6 o’clock is not used here.

In the lab

This movement came into the archive well used and with numerous worn components such as broken bearing jewels, a bent balance staff and a broken mainspring, but was still in principle operational.
