AS 475

Description

The AS 475 dates from the 1920s. It is a rectangular ladies' watch movement with slanted edges, which was pretty small for the time being with only 5 x 8 3/4 lignes.

AS 475: base plate

base plate

The golden or brass toned base plate shows the high execution quality of this movement.

Due to its age, the jewels for the bearings are already framed. Later, from around the 1930s, such framings were no longer neccessiary, when the rubies could be pushed into the bearings then.

AS 475: gear train

gear train

Of course, the AS 475 uses the contemporary gear train with mainspring barrel, directly driven minute wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel and the filigree steel escape wheel, into which the swiss pallet lever engages.

A tiny, but important detail is the ratchet wheel screw. It has got a left-hand thread!

The screw balance is of course not yet shock protected. It beats with 18000 A/h, which can be adjusted with a long regulator arm.

At first glance, you can get the impression, that the balance wheel is slanted (bimetal balance), but it only mocked, since the engravings of the “slants” go only halfway through the balance wheel. A temperature compensation is not possible that way.

AS 475: Dial side

On the bottom right, you can see the old AS hallmark from the time, before AS became part of the Ebauches SA. With that, the year of original can be calculated pretty excatly to the 1920s.

The setting lever spring is really beautiful with its very elaborate form.

In the lab

This movement came without case into the lab and got a simple service, was cleaned and oiled.

Timegrapher result

Though it was cleaned and serviced, the timegrapher result is really poor. Maybe the balance pivots are bad after 100 years. It’s pretty certain, that this movement, when it was new, would have performed significantly better.
