Brac 2051

Description

The Brac 2051 belongs to the rare species of tiny, non-round pin lever movements.

It has a nominal size of 5 1/4 lignes, measured 13,0 x 19,6mm, which makes it fit perfectly into the especially small ladies' watches, which were popular in the 1950s, and which used these kind of rectangular shaped movements to give the impression of being as small as possible.

Generally, the movement wouldn’t have been bad, it is a massive construction, just like “better” form lever movements, only the number of jewels used is quite low. Since the balance wheel bearing and and ellipse of the balance are the only ones, where jewels are used, the Brac 2051 is a five-jewel movement.

Brac 2051: gear train

gear train

The gear train is common for a form movement of this size: The pretty large mainspring barrel drives the center minute wheel, followed by third wheel, seconds wheel and escape wheel.

Since the escape wheel is also pretty large, it is located partially below the seconds wheel bearing, making this construction to be the usual 1 1/2 storey one.

A screw-less anular balance with two legs is used yet. It is secure on the movement side (only there!) in an inhouse Brac-Shock protection bearing of type B. Since a shock protection on the dial side is missing, the movement is not really shock protected, and so, on the specimen shown here, the balance wheel is already broken.

The Brac 2051 beats with 18000 A/h and regulates a pin lever movement.

Brac 2051: Dial side

On the dial side, there’s a simple rocking bar winding mechanism and a very simple made ratchet, consisting of only a bent spring.

As you can see on the bottom of the picture, there’s no shock protection on the dial side, only the usual ruby bearing with cap jewel.
