Cortebert 677

Description

The Cortebert 677, with a nominal diameter of 12 lignes, is a full-fledged manual winding movement for men’s watches dating back to the 1940s.

It impresses with its chaton-set, large jewels, its beveled edges, and its chamfered edges, which are intended to save some height.

Cortebert 677: base plate

base plate

The base plate is unfortunately not decorated, but it does have jewel bearings at all important points. In total, the Cortebert 677 has the 15 jewels that were typical for the time.

Cortebert 677: gear train

gear train

The rather large gears of the classically designed gear train are very finely crafted:
The mainspring barrel drives the central minute wheel, followed by the third wheel, the decentral seconds wheel at 6 o’clock, and the steel escape wheel. A Swiss-made pallet lever engages the latter.

A particularly beautiful feature of this movement is the separate cock, beneath which the escape wheel is mounted.

The two-leg screw balance, which still beats contemporarily slow with 18,000 A/h, is not yet shock-resistant. The effective length of the hairspring, and thus the frequency of the balance, is adjusted using a long regulator arm.

Cortebert 677: Dial side

The dial side has got a perleage decoration and is also beveled at the edge.

Naturally, the Cortebert 677 uses a yoke winding mechanism; however, the example shown here has an incomplete setting lever spring, a typical flaw in older movements.

In the lab

This movement, including the watch, came into the archive with heavy signs of wear, visible water damage and dirt, and received a simple service.

Timegrapher result

With the exception of the inexplicable outlier at 9 o’clock, the values on the timegrapher are excellent, considering the poor condition the movement was in when it came into the archive.
