Desa 322

Description

Desa (Ebauches Desa) was one of the manufacturers of pin lever movements, which are rare to find, although their movements have got exactly the same constructions as those of many other manufacturers like Baumgartner.

The Desa 322 shown here is such a pin lever movement, which builds on a large, 13 ligne base plate. It belongs to the caliber family 220/320, whose base ebauche has got a diameter of only 12 lignes, but has got an identical construction.

The base plate shows the construction with transmission wheel on the base plate. The yoke winding system with its lever and spring can also be seen here.

The gear train of the Desa 322 follows the Roskopf construction with the extra large mainspring barrel, which covers the center of the base plate. Because of this, one transmission step could be saved.

This Roskopf construction is also the reason, why the non shock-protected ring balance beats with the crooked number of 17280 A/h. The escapement is a traditional pin lever escapement.

The fork of the lever is on the top, since the intervention of the balance happens with a finger and not with an ellipse.

As common on Roskopf movements, the hour and minute wheels are both driven by a moveable clutch on the mainspring barrel.

The Desa 322 has got no jewels for bearings (except one of the balance) and no shock protection.

The results on the timegrapher averaged at about zero, but there’s a large difference between horizontal and vertical rates, but that’s no surprise for a 1 jewel movement.
