Description
In the mid-1970s, the first Russian LCD quartz movement for wristwatches came onto the market, the caliber Elektronika 3049, also known as the “B6-02”.
With a diameter of over 32 mm (calculated as 14 1/4 lines) and a height of 8 mm, it was substantial in size, partly due to its 3V supply voltage, which required two LR1130 button cells.
Two integrated circuits, designated “K2CA004b” and “K2A4002”, were used, in the present example from 1977, as well as a handful of other passive components such as discrete diodes and SMD capacitors or resistors.
A large quartz crystal, which in this particular example is probably three years older than the circuitry, takes up a considerable amount of space.
The four-digit LC display, also from 1980, still has rod-shaped connectors and no conductive rubbers, as was actually already common practice at that time.
Naturally, the ravages of time take their toll on the display and movement; after 45 years, the readability is unfortunately almost nonexistent.
The Elektronika 3049 is set using three recessed pushers on the side: The top button activates the flashing seconds markers between the hours and minutes, the middle button sets the hours (24), and the bottom button sets the minutes. There is no date function, nor is there a seconds display.
