Description
The big brother of the ETA 1080 is technically identical to it, only its base plate was enlarged on its outer rim from 10 1/2 to 11 1/2 lignes.
As with most movements, the ETA 1081 was available in various versions, which were primarily reflected in the use of more or fewer cap jewels and a higher or lower quality balance wheels and hairsprings.
What they all have in common is that this windup movement is a very proven design with good execution. The first indication of this is the base plate, where all important bearings are, of course, equipped with jewels.
The ETA 1081 still uses the classic gear train design, in which the mainspring barrel drives a flat center minute wheel, which is mounted under its own cock.
The minute wheel is followed by the third wheel, the directly driven center seconds wheel, and finally the the escapement wheel.
The entire gear train takes up relatively little space, leaving enough room for a large mainspring barrel and a large balance wheel.
The screw balance used, whether monometallic or made of Glucydur, is of course already (Incabloc) shock-resistant, and its beat frequency of 18,000 A/h is adjusted either directly with the hairspring key or with the help of a long regulator hand.
On the dial side, you can see the yoke winding mechanism on the right, the (Incabloc) shock protection on the left, as well as more or less installed cap jewels. The cap jewel for the oil-free escape wheel bearing is rather pointless.
In the center of the movement, you can see an auxiliary minute track, which can be used to test and adjust the movement before installation.
The outer edge is slightly beveled, thus saving a little height.
