Description
Around 1960s, the french caliber Femga 520B, the successor of the
Femga 520, was released.
They kept the size of 10 1/2 lignes as well as the functionality, the display of hours, minutes and center seconds.
This movement is a massive pallet lever movement and is well executed.
Although a little outdated, the Femga 520B uses a directly driven center minute wheel. At that time, this construction type still was very popular.
The gear train didn’t change, compared to its predecessor. It still uses the classical construction with directly driven minute wheel, third wheel, directly driven center seconds wheel and steel escape wheel.
The Femga 520B now uses a shock protected, screw-less anular balance, which is beared in two french M.T.Antichoc bearings. It beats contemporarily slow with 18000 A/h and can be regulated only directly at the hairspring key.
You can see the two cap jewels on the dial side, which cover the escape wheel (good!) and the pinion of the lever (useless, since the bearing doesn’t use oil). Because of this, the advertizing-friendly number of seventeen jewels was achieved.
Of course, the Femga 520B as a better pallet lever movement uses a yoke winding system.
