IWC 53 H6.5

Description

The IWC 53 H6.5 described here is part of the caliber series IWC 52 and was made in 1905 according to its serial number.

With a diameter of 19 lignes, this savonett caliber is a typical representative of a pocket watch movement and was accordingly made in high quantities (180.000 items) over a long period (1888-1927).

Of course, this movement used bearing rubies on all important bearings.

Not self-evident is, that even four chatons were used, on the places, where you can see them, which gives this movement even more improved aesthetics.

IWC 53 H6.5: gear train

gear train

The IWC 53 uses the common gear train for a swiss pallet lever pocket watch movement, which consists of the mainspring barrel, the directly driven center minute wheel, third wheel, decentral seconds wheel (here at position 9 o’clock) and the escape wheel.

The aesthetitally beautiful ratchet engages with the ratchet wheel and its spring surrounds the IWC hallmark.

IWC 53 H6.5: mainspring barrel with maltese cross

mainspring barrel with maltese cross

The mainspring barrel uses a maltese cross to ensure, that the mainspring is never fully unwound and never fully wound. Because of this, we have a defined running time of 30 hours here, in which the force of the mainspring to the gear train is always more or less the same.

The IWC 53 H6.5 has got a bimetal screw balance, which beats wiht 18000 A/h. Its hairspring has got a Breguet end curve into which the long regulator arm engages. A swan neck regulation allows a very fine adjustment.

And since all this is not yet enough, the speciman shown here (but maybe not every IWC 53 H6.5 caliber) uses an additional snail regulation, which allowes an easier adjustment than the usual screw adjustment of the swan neck.

On the dial side, you can see the very well made keyless works with Breguet clutch and a cone.

You can switch betweeen winding and setting the time by pulling a lever, which switches the setting lever.
