Lip 17'''

Description

This Lip pocket watch movement with a diameter of 17 lignes cannot be assigned a specific caliber designation, so it is known as Lip 17’’’.

Judging by the workmanship and finish, it was probably manufactured in the 1920s.

It is very well made in terms of quality; all important bearings are fitted with jewels, even the minute wheel is jewel-bearing, meaning the movement has a total of 16 jewels.

However, the gear train makes far from full use of the available space, which is a shame, because it could have achieved a larger power reserve and/or greater accuracy.

gear train

In terms of construction, this 17-ligne caliber has a classic design: the mainspring barrel drives the central minute wheel, followed by the third wheel, the decentral seconds wheel at 6 o’clock, and finally the escape wheel.

A pallet lever engages the escape wheel.

The two-leg screw balance is not yet shock-resistant. It operates at 18,000 A/h, which can be adjusted using a long regulator arm.

On the dial side, you can see the yoke winding mechanism, which was quite modern at the time, and the cap jewel for the balance bearing. The mounts for the two dial feet are also clearly visible.

In the lab

This movement came into the archive without a case and received a simple service.

Timegrapher result

Unfortunately, this movement shows its age; even a simple overhaul did not help it achieve good values on the time scale.
