Movado 250N

Description

The Movado 250N was a very flat and high-quality Swiss pocket watch movement with a nominal size of 17 lignes, although its actual diameter was somewhat smaller, only 36.8 mm. In the common Flume movement finders, it was even listed as 17-18 lignes.

The richly decorated base plate with perlage of varying sizes and with its transparent jewel bearings demonstrates the high quality of this classically constructed movement.

Movado 250N: gear train

gear train

The mainspring directly drives the central minute wheel, followed by the third wheel, the decentral seconds wheel at 6 o’clock, and the steel escape wheel.

A classic Swiss pallet escapement is used.

The three double-screwed chatons for the third wheel wheel, seconds wheel, and escape wheel are a beautiful sight, along with the striped finish of the bridges – top quality.

The balance cock (not the fine adjustment!) was even patented in Switzerland .

It is said to be particularly well-suited for flat movements.

The ring-shaped fine adjustment mechanism functions technically like a swan-neck adjustment mechanism, perhaps even a touch more finely. It allows for precise adjustment of the screw balance wheel’s beat rate of 18,000 A/h.

Movado 250N: Dial side

The winding mechanism, or more precisely the switching mechanism of the Breguet gear, is very unusual. It does without a classic setting lever spring and instead uses a spring-assisted switching cam.

No expense was spared on the dial decoration either; it is entirely perlage-decorated. The small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock is even recessed, allowing for a minimal reduction in height on certain dials.
