Description
This movement by MST (Meyer & Stüdeli), which has got an official size of 10 1/2 lignes, can be considered as one of the best made and most beautiful pin lever movements.
If you disregard the checp rocking bar winding mechanism on the dial, then on the plate side, you are immideatly reminded of a high quality movement because of the extensive decoration, the gold-toned “screw"balance, the twice secured mainspring bar and the complete equipment with fifteen synthetic jewels. All these are indicators for very well constructed movements.
It’s even more astonishing, that MST developed here a true pin lever movement. It has got a lot of upper-class construction details, like banking pins:
The balance wheel also looks appealing: Gold-toned and with lookalike “screws”, equipped with a finger and a long regulator arm on the cock, which allowes a true regulation in combination with a very well constructed hairspring regulator - it’s really unusual to find them on pin lever movements, which are normally developed for low costs.
The only disadvantage of this movement is, that it wasn’t yet equipped with a shock protection mechanism. On the specimen shown here, the balance wheel is broken, because one of the extremly thin axels didn’t survive a hard shock. What a pity for this fantastic movement!
