Description
Even when Great Britan was very famous for their great watch making history, just think of the legendary british chronometer, after WW II there was not much left. One of the very few manufacturies, which produced their own movements in the 1950ies was Newmark from Croydon.
The 10 1/2 ligne movement shown here has got no own caliber number and was according to the literature the only movement of that size, made in Croydon.
It is a pin lever movement with five jewels (two pairs as balance bearing - still without shock protection and the ellipse of the annular balance) and a beat rate of contenporary 18000 A/h. It controls a conventional pin lever movement which shows hours, minutes and has got a tiny second indication at 6 o’clock.
On the dial side you see the click mechanism, which has got a real ratchet, and you see the rocking bar winding system. The dial side looks pretty crude, unlike the polished movement side.
