Description
With a diameter of 11 1/2 lignes, the Phenix 140 SC from the, probably late, 1940s is an unual large movement and hence not easy to find.
Of course, it is well executed and all important gears are ruby-beared.
This movement was also available in a 10 1/2 ligne version with the same gear train. Beause of this, the outer space on the 11 1/2 ligne version is unused.
We have the classical gear train with directly driven center minute wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel at 6 o’clock and the steel escape wheel.
The movement-side pinion of the third wheel is prolonged and carries the driving wheel for the indirect center seconds indication, whose pinion is beared under an own cock.
The speciality of the version shown here is not the clumsily glued cap jewel of the balance wheel bearing, but the fact, that the hairspring of the screw balance swings free, without a hairspring key. This means, that its precise beating rate of 18000 A/h must be adjusted with the screws of the screw balance, which is very expensive, but guarantees long-time stability.
There are no surprises on the dial side, you see the Incabloc shock protection, the yoke winding system and the on the outside slanted plate, which reduces the height of the movement a little bit.
