Revue 73

Description

A fairly typical, large tonneau-shaped men’s watch movement is the Caliber Revue 73, which was also used by Wittnauer under their own designation “Wittnauer 7 TN”.

The advantage of these tonneau designs was that both the mainspring barrel and the balance wheel could be sufficiently large, which resulted in both a longer power reserve and greater accuracy.

All important bearings are equipped with jewels, and the area under the balance wheel is even decorated with perlage, which indicates a high quality of the movement.

The gear train is of conventional design; the very large mainspring barrel drives the central minute wheel, followed by the third wheel, the decentral seconds wheel at 6 o’clock, and the rather filigree steel escape wheel. In general, the wheels are quite large.

A Swiss pallet fork escapement is used.

The two-armed, monometallic balance wheel is not yet shock-protected and operates at 18,000 A/h, which can be adjusted as precisely as possible with the help of a long regulator arm and a Breguet overcoil.

The Revue 73 is not without its flaws, as it attempts to feign a higher quality than it actually possesses by cutting out the three bearings for the escape wheel, seconds wheel, and third wheel in such a way as to create the impression of three separate cocks.

However, the reverse side of the gear train bridge reveals that it is only a single bridge, and the three bearings (which even contain chatons on the movement side) sit in mocked cocks.

The dial side is completely covered with perlage, and in addition, the angle lever spring has a very unique curved design.
