Description
The probably cheapest way to get a mechanical chronograph movement with a split seconds complication is to get hold of a Slava 5498.
Its diameter is nominally 54mm (23 1/2 lignes) and thus optimal to fully fill the stopwatch case.
Functionally, everything is alright with this movement, it has got 20 jewels, a pallet lever escapement and uses even a Breguet overcoil hairspring for its three-leg anular balance.
The capaticy of this movement is in the range of 1/10 seconds until 30 minutes.
Start, stop and reset are realized with a lever, the split-seconds mechanism with a column wheel.
You can see in slow motion, how the split seconds resets:
This time, no further disassembly was made, because it is a NOS stopwatch, which should not be harmed.
