Timex M23

Description

This tiny movement was found in almost all, at least in all tiny, Timex windup ladies' watches without seconds indication. As most other Timex movements, no jewels were used, and it is riveded on its back side. However, on the dial side, there are three screws, with which you can tear down the movement. If you really want this, or if it not more efficient, just to throw it into cleaning petrol, like it is said on many places, is up to you.

more recent version

In all the years, this movement, which was launched in the early 1960s and produced till around 1995(!), was modified a little, the old version from the year 1963 still had a scale for the regulator arm, younger versions lacked the scale.

The Timex M23 is made different than other pillar movements, since not the base plate, but the gear train bridge contains the pillars. Since additionally, the hairspring stud is attached to the gear train bridge, it is easier work on it turned around, with the gear train bridge at the bottom.

This movement has no bearing and no other jewels, and it was never intended to use it for decades, but for fashion reasons, it was intended to buy a newer, always fashionable up-to-date, model every few years.

gear train

The Timex M23 uses the classical gear train with directly driven center minute wheel (unfortunatly, on the specimen show here, the axle for the cannon pinion is broken), third wheel, seconds wheel and escape wheel.

The M23 uses the V-Conic anular balance, which requires no further shock protection. With a screw, the height play can be adjusted.

The balance beats with 18000 A/h, which can be adjusted on the hairspring key only.

Timex M23: ratchet on the dial side

ratchet on the dial side

The ratched is located on the dial side, as the rocking bar winding system. Both are executed in a simple and efficient way.

With the help of an inserted copper plate bridge, ratchet wheel and rached are held in position. A very simple, but clever and efficient solution.
