Tudor 342

Description

In the 1940s, Tudor was launched from the Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf as second brand for good value, but high quality watches.

Unlike for the main brand Rolex, the movements were not inhouse but bought and improved, so that these movement may well be seen as original Tudor movements.

The Tudor 342 shown here, a form movement of 5 1/4 lignes for ladies' watches, is an improved Peseux 342, on which especially the balance system, but also most bearings were put onto the highest possible level.

Of course, all bearings contain rubies. The third wheel has got on the dial side, the seconds wheel on the movement side a cap jewel, the escape wheel even on both sides. In total, the Tudor 342 uses 21 jewels.

The two movement side cap jewels are beared in KIF Duofix bearings, quasi High End, which ensure, that the oil supply is perfect and the axle is also protected against shocks.

Tudor 342: gear train

gear train

As common on movements of this small size, it is a multi-storey construction. The dial side bearing for the seconds wheel in on half height, above the large steel esape wheel.

The gear train itself is standard with a directly driven center minute wheel.

As regulator, a golden toned two leg Glucydur screw balance is used, which is beared in two KIF Flector shock protections. More quality is higher possible.

With the help of a long regulator arm and a scale on the balance cock, the beating rate of 18000 A/h can be adjusted.

Of course, the Tudor 342 uses a swiss pallet lever escapement.

On the dial side, you can see the KIF Flector bearing of the balance wheel, as well, as the two cap jewels for escape and third wheel.

In the lab

The specimen came a little gummed and with visible water damage into the lab. The case was missing, because it most probably was a gold case, which was melted down in the meantime. What a pity!

A little service with cleaning, oling and adjustments was made.

Timegrapher result

The timegrapher results are excellent for a movement of this small size and history (slaughter movement with water damage)!
