Description
One of the most familiar russian movements is the caliber Zaria 2009B, a windup movement with a diameter of 20mm or 8 3/4 lignes.
It is the technically heavily modernizes successor of the Zaria 2009, but doesn’t share any similarities.
The little less known, older version still has got a fixed hairspring stud and an inhouse shock protection, which reminds a bit of a Ruby-Neutro-Shock.
The first oddity of this, only 2.9mm flat movements is the lack of a center minute wheel. Instead, there’s a reverser wheel between the mainspring barrel and the second wheel, beared under an own bridge.
Of course, the Zaria 2009B is well equipped with bearing jewels, in total 21, including ellipse and lever pallets.
The second wheel (or decentral minute wheel) engages into the reverser wheel with the help of a slipping clutch:
The second wheel is followed by a double third wheel, which indirectly drives the center seconds pinion. The double execution eliminates play and ensures a smooth center seconds indication.
Another oddity is, that the center seconds pinion is ruby-beared not only on the movement side, but also on the dial side. This is realized by an integrated jewel into the hollow shaft, onto which the cannon pinion is set later.

dial-side bearing for the center seconds pinion and egagement of the second wheel into the reverser wheel
Additionally, the use of the reverser wheel requires, that the mainspring barrel rotates against the normal direction, which requires an additional reverser wheel in the windup gear train.
The remaining two gears of the gear train are beared under an own cock. They are the seconds wheel and the escape wheel.
With only 18000 A/h, the Zaria 2009B is a slow-beater. As balance for the swiss pallet lever escapement, a three-leg anular Glucydur balance is used, beared in a generic russian three-leg shock protection. Older versions use another, unknown shock protection type.
The adjustment happens on the hairspring key.
To fix the different height requirements for different shock protections, a typical crude mechanism is used, consisting of a flat piece of metal, which is put between the balance cock and the main plate, the so-called spacer.
On the older versions, the spacer is fixed and consists of brass.
On the dial side of the new version, you can already see the preparation of a date indication, a recessing near 8 o’clock for the calendar wheel.
Of course, the Zaria 2009B uses a yoke winding system.
The hands setting wheel of the winding mechanism first engages with a reverser wheel, then onto the gear of the second wheel, and finally on the reverser and reduction wheel for the hands.
