Zaria 2014A

Description

The caliber Zaria 2014A with a diameter of 20mm (8 3/4 lignes) is one of the latest Zaria movements and hence very modern and flat constructed. It has got a date indication.

Looking on the base plate, you will recognize, that there are more bearing rubies, as you would normally expect. One the one hand, this is an indication for a good quality (even the hands tube contains a ruby for bearing the center seconds axle), on the other hand, it shows the odd construction of this movement.

Since the hands are driven on the dial side and there’s no center minute wheel, we have a different gear train as usual.

The mainspring barrel drives an intermediate wheel, followed by second wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel and escape wheel.

The third wheel has got a double gear to drive the center seconds wheel to avoid flutter and stutter without using a friction spring.

Of course, the Zaria 2014A has got pallet lever escapement.

its three-leg anular Glucydur balance is beared in a pair of russian three-leg shock protections. It beats with 18000 A/h, which can be regulated at the short hairspring key only.

The drive of the second wheel drives the changing wheel of the time display gear train and so simultaneously cannon pinion and hour wheel.

Into the second wheel drive engages additionaly another changer wheel, which engages with the hands setting wheel of the keyless works. This keyless works uses a yoke, which easily jumps out of place and is not very much service-friendly.

The calendar mechanism is quite complicated and difficult to maintain. It consists of the switching wheel, which makes one turn per day and is driven by the hour wheel. A pin on top of that switching wheel loads a switch lever over the whole day, supported by a spring (with good flying capabilities).
Interestingly, the switching wheel is ruby-beared on one side only.

The lever, which holds the date ring in the correct position is also loaded by a flying-capable spring.

Recht kompliziert und wenig wartungsfreundlich ist der Datumsmechanismus, bei dem das Stundenrad das Schaltrad antreibt, welches sich in 24 Stunden einmal dreht. Ein Dorn auf dem Schaltrad spannt über den Tag den Schalthebel, der gegen eine Feder (mit guten Flugeigenschaften!) drückt.

In order to have any chance of assembling the calendar mechanism, which is always under tension, it is designed as a removable module, which is attached to the dial side with two screws and covered with two further screws.

The advantage of the calendar mechanism is that it advances the date instantly at midnight. A semi-quick correction by turning the hands back and forth between 8 p.m. and midnight is also possible.
