JLC 846

Description

The calibar 846 by Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the few ladies' watch form movements, which is still in production.

In terms of quality, it belongs to the top class, the old version shown here doesn’t yet use the micrometer hairspring adjustment, but is nevertheless adjusted in five positions, like a chronometer.

The golden toned, three-armed Glucycur balance is beared in two KIF Ultraflex shock protection systems and the bearings of the escapement wheel contain two large bordered cap jewels. The minute wheel on the other side, uses only standard metal bearings (which is sufficcient!), so in sum you get the familiar total of seventeen jewels.

Since the caliber 846 was launched in the mid seventies, you can see signs of rational production on some parts - the click mechanism for example consists only of a simple click spring and not of a dedicated click and click spring. Technically, this solution is of course sufficcient, but somehow it doesn’t make it up with the rest of the golden-toned movement and its beautiful finish with geneva stripes.
