Förster 60

Description

From Förster, their selfwinding movements and also a few windup movements for gents watches are well known, but for windup ladies' watches, Förster only played a minor role. Hence the Förster 60, a 5 1/4 ligne form movement for ladies watches, available in the early 1960s, is difficult to find, maybe due to the fact, that at that time, tonneau-shaped movements were yet much more popular.

It is really well executed, and of course all bearings contain rubies, even for the minute wheel (but only on the movement side).

Förster 60: gear train

gear train

We have the classical gear train here with directly driven center minute wheel, followed by tiny third and seconds wheels and finally the larger, very filigree escape wheel.

The two-leg anular balance without screws is already very modern. It is beared in two high quality KIF Flector shock protections and regulates a swiss pallet lever escapement.

The beat rate is still slow with 18000 A/h, and can be adjusted at the hairspring key only.

Of course the Förster 60 uses a yoke winding system, which can be seen very well, and also its uniquely shaped setting lever spring and the KIF Flector bearing.

On top and bottom of the long movement, the plate is slanted to reduce a little bit height.

In the lab

This movement came in pretty good condition into the archive and got a simple service (cleaning, oil change) because of its age.

Timegrapher result

This 60 year old movement performs very well on the timegrapher.
