Description
The Marvin 310 is a 8 3/4 ligne windup movement from Switzerland, which was launched in the 1940s.
Unfortunately, the specimen shown here was treated badly from a gold butcherer, so that it is beyond repair. This is very sad, because with its specially shock protected golden-toned Glucydur screw balance, it was a very nice movement.
Of course all important bearings contain rubies, in total, the marvin 310 used the contemporarily usual 15 jewels.
The Marvin 310 uses the classical gear train with directly driven center minute wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel at 6 o’clock and steel escape wheel.
You can see, that all gears are pretty large.
As balance wheel, a golden toned Glucydur screw balance is used, which beats with 18000 A/h and can be adjusted with a long regulator arm.
The balance wheel pivot on the movement side is somehow shock protected by using an axially moveable bearing. Not really effective but far better than nothing.
On the dial side, however, there’s no shock protection for the balance wheel. This was standard in the 1940s.
Of course, the Marvin 310 uses a yoke winding system.
