One of the most important (and also cheapest) tools of a workbench is the dial protector. It is basically a think soft plastic sheet with a hole for the hands. One professional example is the Bergeon 6938.

On lifting of the hands, the dial protector ensures, that the lifting tool (e.g. from Presto) does not get into contact with the dial to cause visible harm.

Especially on old watches you very often see visible damage around the middle of the dial, caused by working without dial protector. Please don’t do this again!
