Amida 500

Description

Probably in the early 1950ies, the pin lever movement Amida 500 was launched. It was a mid size movement with 10 1/2 lignes diameter, which impressed by its high quality as well as with its vast decoration, which was unusual on pin lever movements of that time.

All bearings of this movements are equipped with rubies; in sum with the ellipse of the balance (unusual for a pin lever movement) this leads to a total of 15 jewels.

Gears and trains

The construction is absolutely classical: The (pin) lever regulates the escapement wheel, which is located on a (more or less adjustable) U-shaped bearing, on the top side even with a cap jewel. The, the small, decentral second as “6”, then the third wheel and the minute wheel, which is directly driven by the mainspring barrel.

Escapement wheel

The escapement wheel is one of the most beautiful ones, I’ve ever seen in a pin lever movement. Its shape is almost identical to that of a pallet lever movement, only the teeth are a tiny little bit larger.

Amida 500: lookalike screw balance

lookalike screw balance

The balance wheel, which beats with contemporary 18000 A/h, has got lookalike screws (made of massive half-circles) and ruby ellipse. Those lookalike screws have no technical function, but are very beautiful, especially in combination with the golden color here.

There’s no shock protection yet on that movement.

Amida 500 dial side

On the dial side, you can spot the rocking bar winding mechanism with its click and clickspring.

The U-shaped cutting where the lever bearing is located is a reminiscence to old pin lever construction. Since you can bend it a little, you can adjust the depth of the pins into the escapement wheel. This is a pretty crude type of adjustment which was at the at time long time obsolete.
