Description
In the 1960s and 1970s, tiny watches had to be as small as possible.
Usually, tonneau-shaped movements were used in cases, with a
smaller width than height.
When a case has to be exactly round and the the available space
had to be used as good as possible, a true round movement had to
be used, but this was rather rare.
The Otero 64 with its round shape and a diameter of only 6 3/4 lignes, a little more than 15mm, it had the perfect conditions, but was a bit exotic.
In terms of quality, this movement was well made, and of course, all important bearings contain rubies. The available space is also used very well with a large mainspring barrel and a pretty large balance wheel.
To use larger wheels, a two-storey gear train had to be used, where the center minute wheel is directly driven by the mainspring barrel, followed by third wheel, seconds wheel and escape wheel.
The dial side seconds wheel bearing is in half-height, so that the steel escape wheel rund below it and so could be quite large.
The screw-less anular wheel is made in a modern shape with three legs. It is beared in two generic three-leg shock proections and beats already with 21600 A/h. This frequency is engraved on the balance wheel wock and can be adjusted at the hairspring key only.
Of course, a swiss pallet lever escapement is used.
On the dial side, the base place is slanted on its outer parts, which allows the usage of dials, which are also slanted on the outer rims to allows even flatter cases.
Besides this, you see the yoke winding system on the dial side.
