Description
The Parrenin caliber 1641D is a very cost efficient constructed pin lever movement.
It was probably constructed in the early 1970ies and uses a modern three-leg balance, but on the other hand lacks a shock protection and a moveable hairspring stud.
Nevertheless, all bearings of this movement use synthetic rubis, those of third and fourth weel are even covered with a cap jewel, which finally enables the manufacturer to print the “17 jewels” inscription on the dial and makes it impossible for the potential buyer to find out about the low quality inside. The second hand is by the way directly driven.
On the dial side, you’ll find the familiar Roskopf-type construction, which can often be found on pin lever movements. The mainspring barrel wheel works in this construction as reduction wheel for the hour hand and so drives both hands, minute- and hour hand directly. They can both be removed easily.
Interestingly, this movement used a yoke winding system, which is constructed in a very simple, but quite genious way: The spring yoke works as yoke, thus dramatically reducing the number of parts for the winding system.
The Parennin 1641D uses a very simple made date mechanism, which advances slowly and cannot be corrected in a faster way.
