Bifora 2030 SC

Description

1940 launches Bifora (Bidlingmaier in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany) their second inhouse form movement, which was now equipped with an indirectly driven center second and a KIF Protechoc shock protection. Is size was 8 3/4 x 12 lignes and was so equal to its predecessor, the Bifora 2025.

This movement is a pillar construction.

All important bearings are ruby-equipped.

You also see very well the (unfortunately broken on the specimen shown here) setting lever spring of the rocking bar winding system. This spring is not located on the dial side, but on the movement side!

Bifora 2030 SC: gear train

gear train

We have the classical gear train here with (potential) decentral second at 6 o’clock and large mainspring barrel on top. The directly driven minute wheel is hollowed for the central seconds wheel. This is driven by a wheel on top of the third wheel on top of the movement plate, and it’s held in place by a spring, which avoids fluttering.

The screw balance is beared in two KIF Protechoc bearings and beats contemporarily slow with 18000 A/h. It regulares a conventional pallet lever movement of swiss type.

On the dial side, you see the click mechanism with its ratchet and the rocking bar winding system.

In the lab

The specimen shown here was in fair condition, when it came into the lab. Unfortunatly, the prolonged axle of the third wheel was already weakened, so it broke, when the seconds driving wheel was removed. Since it did not break the remaining function, it was left as it was and no service was made.

Timegrapher result

On the timegrapher, the Bifora 2030 SC offered the expected picture of a long-used but not recently revised watch. The amplitude is still OK on horizontal position, but hanging, it breaks in strongly. The beat error values scatter relatively strongly, the massive outlier at crown down can not really be explained, even in other hanging locations there were sometimes very strong outliers (which partly overcame the time scale), which however after some time also disappeared again. A service and also a replacement of the balance shafts would probably be appropriate.

horizontal positions
dial up +100 s/d 197° 1.9ms
dial down +24 s/d 186° 2.3ms
vertical positions
crown right (12 up) -141 s/d 126° 2.8ms
crown up (3 up) +50 s/d 124° 3.7ms
crown left (6 up) -35 s/d 145° 2.1ms
crown down (9 up) -759 s/d 161° 2.6ms
