Ronda 1377

Description

Ronda started early into the quarz era and developed its first wristwatch quartz movement in 1973 - the Ronda 1377. It was available since 1974 and during its production time, it got three revisions, each to resemble the current state of are of the quartz technology.

The specimen shown here is from the fourth and last generation and was produced about 1975/1976.

The revisions mainly affect the circuit board - in each version, the quarz and the IC got smaller. It finally only consisted of a black “dot”, bonded onto the circuit board - a technology, which is even today still state of the art, as well, as the small round tuning fork quarz.

Ronda 1377: empty dial side

empty dial side

On the empty dial side, you see a large slot. It was used on the first and second version for the location of the quarz, which was much bigger that time. Later revisions used much smaller quarzes, which all had place on the electronics board.

At 5:30, you see the lower side of the stepper motor, and at 3 o’clock the yoke winding system.

dial side without weekday disc

On the dial side, you see the date ring and the Ronda-typical, slowly switching date indication mechanism with switching star and hidden quickset mechanism. It works pretty unique: When you turn the hands backwards, the date is advanced quickly. The weekday can only be corrected slowly, but on a quarz movement, which runs one year without interruption, this is not a big problem.
